This page provides links to a collection of 10 tools designed to support the assessment of capacity strengthening needs. The information available here supplements the brief overview of each tool given in the IUCN publication "Strengthening Voices for Better Choices: A capacity needs assessment process" (P. Stephen and R. Triraganon, 2009).
These tools should be considered as optional support mechanisms for enabling a full exploration of capacity needs. Like the assessment process outlined in the publication, the tools do not have to be used or followed in their entirety. For instance, if you have already analyzed and documented current challenges and problems, and there is general understanding and agreement among stakeholders, then there is no point in working through a problem tree analysis.
The tools are back-up mechanisms, and if used should be adapted to suit the local context and requirements.
