The Temperate and Boreal Forest Programme (TBFP), which works primarily in Central and Eastern Europe and Russia, is an integral part of the Forest Conservation Programme. Through the TBFP, the Forest Conservation Programme is able to: 

The mandate of the Temperate and Boreal Forest Programme is to:

  • Provide leadership and coordination to the Forest Conservation Programme’s work on temperate and boreal forests, including in programme and partnership development and fundraising.
  • Mobilize a global network within IUCN (commissions, members and secretariat) that shares lessons, facilitates learning & communicates results.
  • Support capacity building at regional level and interact very closely with relevant regional programmes, providing them with technical and strategic guidance on temperate and boreal forest issues.
  • Manage and implement a portfolio of projects and/or technical assistance components that transcend national and regional competence or that otherwise fill a gap that can’t be covered by Regional & Country Offices.
  • Coordinate and promote strategic engagement in international and regional policy fora on issues that impact on temperate and boreal forests
