Visualization

Visualization in landscapes has proved a powerful tool for engaging communities and setting visual baselines by which communities can track changes in landscapes based on their own perceptions of their current landscape and what they would like to see in the future. In 2008 , the Livelihoods and Landscapes visualization expert will work to develop visualization techniques in 6-8 LLS sites in order to support participatory methods in engaging local stakeholders (one of which is for CEMPs: Community Environmental Management Plans) and involving them in the process in the Livelihoods and Landscapes sites. This work will also serve to develop and explore scenarios with the local stakeholders in the Livelihoods and Landscapes sites Visualization activities are planned for Uganda in January or February, Sudan in February, West Papua in February or March, the Congo Basin in June and other sites as required by the coordinators of the geographic components. Training will be provided for regional Livelihoods and Landscapes staff in the use of visualization techniques so that drawings and visual baselines can be created for each site. A full day training session on the use of visualization techniques will be held at the World Conservation Congress in Barcelona in October 2008.  Visual support will be provided to geographic components in connection with their participatory outcome assessment activities.
