IUCN and Shell are collaborating on a number of projects to develop conservation policies, approaches and tools related to the energy sector. These have the potential to set higher biodiversity conservation standards across the sector.
Current activities under the IUCN-Shell agreement:
- Participation in the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Oil & Gas Sector Supplement
- Developing cross-sector industry standards for sustainable development in the Arctic
- Arctic regional management approaches project (pdf summary)
Post-pilot activities:
Agreement objective: Raise biodiversity performance standards in the energy sector and its supply chains.
Outcome: Development of conservation and related policies, approaches and tools that have potential sector-wide influence and application to the energy sector.
