Initiatives

IUCN leads or is involved in several initiatives that cut across its various programmes. Some are ongoing, others run for a set period of time. Here are just a few of them:

Submerged Mangrove

Mangroves for the future

Mangroves for the Future (MFF) is a partner-led initiative to promote investment in coastal ecosystem conservation for sustainable development. It allows for collaboration between the many different agencies, sectors and countries who are addressing challenges to coastal ecosystems and livelihoods.

Water and Nature Initiative

Water and Nature Initiative

The IUCN Water and Nature Initiative (WANI) works towards managing and protecting our water reserves and heritage for the future benefit of all. Stretching across five continents in 12 river basins, WANI works with governments and local communities to use and manage water resources more sustainably. WANI aims to help reduce poverty and protect the environment by helping people to manage river flows and improving access to all communities.

SOS - Save our Species

SOS - Save Our Species, is a global coalition initiated by IUCN, the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and World Bank to build the biggest species conservation fund, supporting on-the-ground field conservation projects all over the world. SOS combines resources and funding experience from the World Bank and GEF, the authoritative science of IUCN and the resources of the private sector to target funding to species conservation projects where and when it will have the most impact.
