IUCN ROWA was recently selected to become one of the observers in the Man and Biosphere National Committee in Jordan. Initiated by UNESCO, the Man and the Biosphere Programme (MAB) notably targets the ecological, social and economic dimensions of biodiversity loss and the reduction of this loss.

It is worth mentioning that Dana Reserve in Jordan and Arz Al Shouf Reserve in Lebanon are part of the World Network of Biosphere Reserves, which is used as a vehicle for knowledge-sharing, research and monitoring, education and training, and participatory decision-making.

Biosphere reserves can also serve as learning and demonstration sites in the framework of the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (DESD).
