The demonstration project will work on a simple model for watershed development planning, supported by an user-friendly Decision Support System (DSS), that can be applied in the mountainous zones of West Asia.
This will be tested and applied in Marj Sanour, a hilly zone in Jenin Governorate. The project will give special emphasis to sustainable livelihoods, agricultural development and conjunctive use of ground and surface (run-off) water. It will also prevent flooding and landslide through the promotion of agriculture on hill slopes surrounding the villages. The sketch below depicts roughly the environmental flows in and around the watershed.
