Odeh Al Jayyousi, PhD.
Regional Director
Prof. Odeh Al-Jayyousi was a university professor in water resources and environment and dean of scientific research at the Applied Science University in Jordan. He has a diverse professional experience in water policy, planning and management : City of Chicago - Department of Planning, University of Illinois - Center of Urban Economic Development, Sigma - Consulting Engineers. He designed, conducted and facilitated training workshops and focus groups. He worked as a consultant with EU, ESCWA, WB and GTZ. He was nominated and selected for the Next Generation of Water Leadership Program (Stockholm,1999). He participated in the formulation of the World Water Vision 21st and the formulation of the Strategy of Biodiversity and Water in Jordan. He published over 30 articles in international journals.

Peter Laban
Regional Programme Coordinator, REWARD and Climate Change
With 33 years experience in sustainable land use and eco-systems, Peter Laban has gained expertise in different work fields, from soil surveys, forest and natural resource inventories to the development and policy implementation of sustainable agriculture, watershed management, and community forestry. As a specialist he was deployed worldwide mainly in Africa, Asia and now the Middle East, where he has been working since 1996. Before joining the IUCN ROWA team, he worked at CARE International, where he was Regional Coordinator of EMPOWERS, a participatory stakeholder-led water planning and management programme in the Middle East. Peter provided numerous consultancies in institutional change and development processes (CEOSS in Egypt; PASP/after-project design in Guinea Bissau; Coordinator of DGIS thematic evaluations of 8 resources management projects). He holds two Master of Science Degrees, one with specialization in tropical forestry and soil science and one with specialization in economics for agricultural development, both from the Agricultural University Wageningen.

Saeed Shami
Regional Programme Coordinator for Biodiversity Management
Saeed Shami is an international natural resources and environment management professional, with about 25 years of progressive experience including more than 15 years internationally. Before joining IUCN, Saeed has been working with the FAO as Chief Technical Advisor to the "Support of the Rural Institutions for the benefit of Small Scale Farmers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia". He also worked for FAO in Yemen, Syria and Rome. In addition Saeed worked for UNDP, RTI International, and the Netherlands Development Cooperation.
Saeed holds postgraduate degree in the field of natural resource management. His technical professional experience covered NRM, community-based integrated development, decentralization and decentralized planning, institutional strengthening and promotion of good governance. Saeed possess considerable experience in programme development, coordinating policies review and formulation and in strategic planning.
Having worked as portfolio manager responsible for a number of countries, and Team Leader/Chief Technical Advisor for large programs/projects for several years, Saeed has a well established and pronounced capacity and ability to provide leadership as well as advisory services for programmatic responsibilities, coordination and partnership building, management, monitoring and supervision of million-dollar-projects and multi-sector-projects and programmes.

Fadi Shraideh
Deputy Coordinator, REWARD Programme
Mr. Fadi Shraideh, has joined IUCN in July 2007. He is a development worker with extensive experience as a manager and hands-on practitioner of development operations. He has worked mainly with NGOs, where he has spent the last seven years working for International organizations interacting with the local communities. This work has included the development and subsequent management of Long Range Strategic Plans, proposal development for a wide range of donor organizations. Fadi has also worked on agriculture progress and natural resources, rights based programming, gender programming and small scale credit scheme. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Economics from Yarmouk University in Jordan.

Khaldoun Al Omari
Protected Areas Programme Officer
Coordinating and conducting research in protected areas ever since his B.Sc. degree in Applied Biology from the Jordan University of Science and Technology in Jordan, Khaldoun Al Omari brings a lot of experience in the management of protected areas with him. Before joining the IUCN team, he used to work for the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature, where he supervised the site ecologists and the Head Quarter research team to ensure the ecological sustainable management of the protected areas. Previously, Khaldoun was the team leader of the Bird Research at the Royal Society for Conservation of Nature (RSCN). He specialized in bird advance research and holds a license in bird ringing on both national and international levels. He worked as a natural bird sound recordist, and raptor conservation biologist. Sharing his expertise on bird migration and biodiversity, he also conducted several training workshops.

Mohamed Eltayeb, PhD.
Marine Programme Officer
Dr Mohamed Eltayeb joined the IUCN ROWA team in order to build up a new thematic programme on Marine Environment in Jeddah, Saudi-Arabia. Since May 2006, Mohamed has been the former Head of the Coastal Development and Management Department and assistance professor at the Faculty of Marine Sciences and Fisheries in the Red Sea University, Port Sudan. After completing his studies of Biological Oceanography at the Red Sea University and Geography of Third World Development at the University of London, Mohamed continued his university career as a lecturer and scientist at the Faculty of Marine Sciences and Fisheries of the Red Sea University, Port Sudan, where he specialized in conducting research considering the development of Coral Reefs. Further, he contributed to several assessments for environmental impacts of man-made interventions through newly created buildings, ports or industries at the shore. He holds a Ph.D in Zoology from the University of Khartoum - Sudan.

Majdi Salameh
Business & Biodiversity Officer
Majdi Salameh has joined IUCN ROWA in August 2008. He holds a master’s degree in Environmental Science and Management. He has ten years of diverse practical experience in research, planning, programme and project cycle management, environmental monitoring and evaluation. Before joining IUCN ROWA Majdi has worked for the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN) in Jordan, Integrated Management and Information Consultants (IMI) and for BirdLife International-Middle East Division. Majdi coordinated several environmental and social impact assessment studies, contributed to the management cycle of regional programmes, prepared regional action plans, developed environmental management plans, participated in the valuation of damages to the environment, land use planning and master plans, protected area management plans, in addition to many projects aiming at sustainable development, enhancing local community involvement, and empowerment of women and youth.

Mufleh Al Abbadi
Zarqa River Restoration Project Coordinator
Mufleh Abbadi Joined IUCN ROWA in July 2008. He Holds a Bachelors degree in Agriculture Engineering (Soil and Irrigation) from University of Mosel in Iraq. He has 13 years of extensive experience in the field of Integrated water resource management. Before joining IUCN, Mufleh has worked for both Governmental and non-Governmental sectors. He worked at Care international for 5 years and 8 years at Ministry of Agriculture in Jordan. Mufleh was the Natural Resources Management Coordinator in Care International. He is also specialized in project Management, community development, Permaculture, Small scale credit scheme, right-based and gender programming. He designed, conducted and facilitated many training workshops. He also developed Water Management Information Systems and water strategic plans for Balqa Governorate in Jordan. In addition, Mufleh has demonstrated several Permaculture sites, and developed local water strategic plans.

Fidaa Haddad
Azraq Project Coordinator, REWARD Programme
Fidaa Haddad has extensive experiences as a development worker in the field of water management and gained a strong practical knowledge in development operations. Since 2002, Fidaa has worked at Care International in Jordan, interacting with the civil society sector. Her work included the development and the management of long range strategic plans through facilitation, coordination and communication. Her expertise spreads over a number of sectors including agriculture and natural resources, small scale credit schemes; civil rights programs and gender training. Fidaa holds a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering from the Jordan University for Science and Technology.

Sameera Al-Rifai
Palestine Project Office Manager, REWARD Programme
Sameera Rifai is managing the strategic development and implementation of IUCN REWARD Project in Marj Sanour area in Palestine. Sameera obtained her Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering from Al Najah University in Palestine in 1990. She has an extensive experience in community based development and has worked with international and local NGOs in the field of program management, planning, overseeing implementation, monitoring, and administration.
Moath Hasan
Finance & Administration Officer
Holding a BA degree in Finance & Banking from the Al Al-Bayt University in Jordan, Moath Hasan has joined IUCN ROWA as a Finance & Administration Officer in April 2008. Before joining IUCN, Moath worked as a Finance and Administration Manager in the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) in Jordan, and a Finance and Administration Manager in the Gulf Supplies and Contingency Services Company. He was also a Senior Accountant in the Falcon Jordanian International Group. Moath has good experience in handling financial reports on income statement, cash flow statement, cash budget, balance sheet and cost analysis. He is capable of using several accounting programs such as M.Y.O.P, ACCPAC, QuickBooks and Peachtree.

Buthaina Mizyed
Monitoring and Social Research Coordinator, REWARD Programme
Buthaina Mizyed has graduated from Faculty of Agricultural in Al Najah National University in Palestine specialized in Plant Production and Protection as well as in Environmental Studies. She a good experience in research, rural women extension and vegetable production. She worked as a Seed Technologist in a regional project in Palestine called Conservation and Utilization of Dryland Agro-biodiversity. Buthaina also worked as a Process Documentation Specialist with The Euro-Med Participatory Water Resources Scenarios (EMPOWERS) in Palestine. She has joined the IUCN WAME team in 2007 as a Monitoring and Social research coordinator in Marj Sanour water shed Management project.
Rania Faouri
Communications Officer
Rania is the IUCN ROWA Communications Officer who joined IUCN in February 2006. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from Yarmouk University in Jordan. Rania is responsible for all communication activities to increase the visibility of IUCN in the West Asia Region through webstories, press releases, e-newsletters, regional events, publications and communication material. Before joining IUCN, she has worked in the Airline Industry as PR Officer in Royal Jordanian Airlines and then as a Training Specialist in the Arab Air Carriers Organization – Regional Training Center.

Rana Fityani
Process Documentation Officer, REWARD Programme
Rana Fityani has recently been appointed as a Process Documentation Officer for the Regional Water Resources & Drylands Programme (REWARD). Before joining IUCN, Rana has worked as Project Officer at the Arab Women Organization and at the Caritas. She also worked at Darat Al Funun and the Shoman Foundation in Jordan. She holds a Bachelors degree in Psychology and Archeology from the University of Jordan. Rana is also a Human Rights and Gender activist and a child literature author.

Luma Al Kurdi
Finance & Administration Officer, REWARD Programme
Luma has joined IUCN ROWA in March 2006 as a Finance & Administration Assistant. She holds a BAs in Management Information Systems from the University of Petra in Jordan. During the completion of her BA degree, she shaped her leadership and teamwork skills through working as a director of the women's' gym "Shape up" in Jordan. Before joining IUCN Luma has been working as Finance Officer for the Iraq Delegation of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in Amman. She was responsible for managing the funds and financial assets of the delegation and compiled financial reports for the federation and the donors. As a Finance and Administration Officer, she is in charge of maintaining appropriate financial and managerial control for the REWARD Programme activities as well as sustaining a good relationaship among purveyors and the regioanl office.

Ola Mallah
Membership Assistant
Ola Mallah has joined IUCN ROWA in 2004 as a Secretary and Administration Assistant along with the establishment of the regional office in Jordan. She has been promoted in 2007 to become the IUCN Membership Focal Point and Administrative Assistant. With this new position Ola handles all issues related to promoting the IUCN membership in the West Asia Region, including membership applications, dues and the admission processes. Ola organizes Regional and National Membership Committees' events such as workshops, congresses or regional fora. She fosters linkages between members and IUCN regional office. Before joining IUCN team she worked as a graphic designer in the Jordan Modern International Trade & Investment Company in Amman among others. She holds a Travel & Tourism Diploma from the Arab College in Jordan.

Haifaa Abdulhalim
Protected Areas Programme Assistant
Haifaa Abdulhalim is responsible of research, proposal writing for further activities and fundraising for planned actions. Additionally, she organizes conferences and workshops for the protected areas programme. During her 4-year-university years studying Heritage Resources & Museums Management from the Queen Rania Institute of Heritage and Tourism in the Hashemite University in Jordan, Haifaa worked as a Research Assistant in the university. She has worked for the Jordan Environment Society as a volunteer and for the Society for Sustainable Development as project coordinator before joining IUCN.
