In Oceania, millions of people are directly dependent upon nature’s bounties for their daily food, housing and medicine. Good environmental governance will ensure the environment continues to provide goods and services for the prosperity of human societies. Sharing power, responsibility and benefits in natural resource management, as well as strengthening governance arrangements including legal entitlements, making decisions more transparent, inclusive and equitable, are good for both people and biodiversity.
What we do:
Environmental Law Programme
Our Environmental Law Programme aims to enhance governance of the biodiversity and natural resources of the Oceania region. Key areas of our work are: awareness raising, capacity building, policy development and research and knowledge building.
Environmental Economics
Quality information on environmental economics, on the costs and benefits of sustainable and unsustainable environmental management options, is needed for decision makers. The role of the Pacific Regional Environmental Economics Network is important to us and we will continue to support it.
