Spanish-Moroccan Workshop on Ornithological Tourism, Doñana, Spain, 1-4 May 2014

23 April 2014 | Event

The IUCN Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation (IUCN-Med) was co-organizing the fair of ornithological tourism, which took place in the Natural Space of Doñana (Spain) from the 1st to the 4th of May.

The objective of this meeting was to share the different experiences of Mediterranean Ornithological tourism, and to implement initiatives for economical development on the two sides of the sea. In this framework, IUCN-Med was organizing a preliminary Spanish-Moroccan session, which fixed the bases for the set up of a similar future event in Morocco.
The audience was made up by representatives of national institutions working on migratory birds and ornithological tourism, from Morocco and Spain. A meeting was also forecasted between the Moroccan authorities Abderrahim Houmy, General Secretary, and Mohamed Endichi, head of the Nature Protection of the High Commissariat for Waters and Forests and for the fight against desertification, the Spanish authorities of the Junta of Andalusia Esperanza Perea, Head of the Natural Spaces and Civic participation, and IUCN-Med, for the development of the joint activities on this topic.

This workshop had three main goals: fix the bases for the organization of a future fair of ornithological tourism in Morocco, create a consortium upon the participant’s joint activities, and spread the knowledge about Moroccan birds.
