Improving forest legislation in the Republic of Moldova

01 May 2012 | Downloads - publication

The Republic of Moldova is a country with a major deficit of forest resources, this being the consequence of the inherited situation that has been lasting during a long period of time. The forestry authority makes considerable efforts to improve the situation, thus re-launching the afforestation activities since 2002.

Moldova has undertaken many actions aimed to decreasing forest contraventions and crimes during the last years. Joint action plans on maintaining public order and environment protection with regard to fighting against illegal logging were developed and implemented by forestry authority. As a result, a decreasing dynamic with regard to systemic illegal logging has been achieved.
