This poster will present the "Fire restoration methodology for Mediterranean forests: environmental safety and sustainability of four interventions in the Rhodes NATURA 2000 site, FRAMME" project. This project was developed to close the contemporary scientific knowledge gaps in management and restoration practices for fire affected Mediterranean forests.

This project is essentially a large restoration experiment covering a total area of 64 ha of burnt land on a Natura 2000 site on the Island of Rhodes in Greece. This area is very rich in biodiversity and has many important habitats and species that have been greatly impacted by fire. The project consists of four different restoration interventions, two of which are commonly used today. The other two are relatively new innovations that incorporate the reuse of treated wastewater and sludge. The interventions will be evaluated based on their environmental soundness, restoration effectiveness and economic efficiency in order to produce a best practice restoration guide for burnt Mediterranean forest areas which can be used to inform policy.

This event is organized by Elliniki Etairia of the Society for the Environment and Cultural Heritage in partnership with the Agricultural University of Athens, Municipality of Rhodes.
