Mr Carl Bruessow, the Executive Director of Mulanje Mountain Conservation Trust and Chair of the Malawi National Committee comments on the second day of the Regional Conservation Forum for Eastern and Southern Africa.

The conference has brought rich thinking and innovation to us working within this African region, and specifically the current conservation financing opportunities must become more accessible for us to achieve change.

There is a need to move from the typical donor financing modalities, towards utilising market driven means benefiting from carbon opportunities, payments for ecosystem services and natural resource based enterprises.

This potential must be guided carefully to ensure accessibility, adherence to standards and functional capacity, especially at local level.
