Mekong Water Dialogues

The Mekong Water Dialogues is coordinated and facilitated by IUCN and supported by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. It was initiated to work with countries of the Mekong Region - Cambodia, Lao PDR, Thailand and Viet Nam - to improve water governance by facilitating transparent and inclusive decision-making to improve livelihood security, human and ecosystem health.

About the Mekong Water Dialogues

As part of Regional Water and Wetlands programme for Asia, the Mekong Water Dialogues aims to: 

  •  improve decision-making processes around water-related management and conservation in the Mekong Region;
  • to provide an opportunity for government, private sector and civil society in the region to participate in dialogues; and
  • to enable different perspectives about water-related development to be considered.

Goal and Purpose

The goal of the project is to improve livelihood security, human and ecosystem health in the Mekong Region through participatory water governance

The purpose of the project is to mainstream participation by multiple stakeholders including communities and civil society in decision making related to management of water resources in the Mekong Region

What are Dialogues?

Dialogues are a series of facilitated discussions that allow participants to share their perspectives and experiences to promote and build a deeper understanding of contentious issues. Dialogues can assist various sectors of society to reflect on previous work, assess future options and openly negotiate workable strategies, agreements and build relationships.
