Welcome to the Living in a Changing Climate newsletter!
This quarterly update, jointly issued by IUCN and CARE International, keeps you up to date on our work on climate change adaptation in Cambodia, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam. IUCN and CARE International are carrying out two projects, “Building Resilience to Climate Change Impacts ―Coastal Southeast Asia” (BCR) and “Building Costal Resilience to Reduce Climate Change Impact in Thailand and Indonesia" (BCR-CC), both funded by the European Union.

Cambodian community calls for nature rehabilitation Entirely situated in Peam Krasop Wildlife Sanctuary (PKWS), Koh Kapik is one of six communes within Koh Kong province. It is located about 30 kilometers southwest of Koh Kong city. The commune composes of three different villages namely Koh Kapik I, Koh Kapik II and Koh Sralao.

financed by the EU.

A fishing community takes own actions towards climate change resilience Baan Thaklong in Koh Klang, sub-district of Lanta district in Krabi province is a typical coastal village, where fishing serves as main livelihood. Since around 10 years fishing catchments decreased, which put the livelihood of the coastal population at risk.

European Comission for increasing resilience of coastal populations to the negative impacts of climate change.

What’s causing large-scale clam deaths in Ben Tre? Ben Tre is a major supplier of white clam seeds for other parts of the Mekong Delta and elsewhere in Vietnam. Of Ben Tre’s 65-km coastline, 50 km are used for clam growing and its clams are a respected brand that offers clam collectors high profits.

Near-shore fishing in Can Gio: a precarious living As part of a BCR training workshop for provincial government staff in Can Gio on April 4-6, 2012, IUCN organized a short visit to Dong Tranh, a fishing village located right next to Can Gio Mangrove Biosphere Reserve where the trainees could test their skills at carrying out vulnerability and capacity assessments.

Jonathan Shott walked the Thai audiences to the coastal stories On the 22 July 2012, Jonathan Shott, a Project Manager and Disaster Management Consultant of the Sustainable Development Foundation (SDF), was on Channel 9 (MCOT) - "I Love Thailand". He invited the audiences to learn more about his field sites and coastal stories that link with climate change, livelihood, natural resources management, awareness raising and more.

Can Gio Mangrove Biosphere Reserve Evaluation 2012

This report is produced by Dr. Vo Quoc Tuan, and Dr. C. Kuenzer under BCR Project. It aims to evaluate the current status, the dynamics, and the ecosystem services, as well as ecosystem service values of the mangrove forest in Can Gio.
