IUCN - Our work

The IUCN Viet Nam Country Programme focuses on the following areas: business and biodiversity conservation, environmental awareness, environmental economics, forest conservation, marine and coastal ecosystems, protected areas, sustainable use of natural resources, wetlands and water resources and integrated environmental planning. For the period 2007 – 2010, IUCN Viet Nam especially focuses efforts on the four thematic programmes of governance, environmental planning, environmental services, and climate change.

Over the past year, the IUCN Vietnam Country Office has continued to strengthen its Country Programme. This was achieved though the following activities:

Promoting active participation of civil society in environmental governance (2010 - 2012)
Mekong Region Water Dialogues (2008-2012)
Launch of the Strategic Framework for the period 2007-2010, which takes into account the government priorities and donor interests
Establishment of strategic partnerships with the private sector, including the Viet Nam Chamber of Industry and Commerce (VCCI) and Holcim Ltd. Viet Nam
Development of climate change portfolio
Development of the Donor Strategy and the Programme Management Guidelines
Provision of more emphasis on the communication and extension role of IUCN
