On May 22, 2014, IUCN, the International Union for Conservation of Nature received an award from the Quang Nam Provincial People’s Committee for its support to the Cu Lao Cham Marine Protected Area (MPA) and Biosphere Reserve. This is a great honour for IUCN and recognizes our work helping to protect these important areas.

Over the past few years, IUCN has assisted the Cu Lao Cham MPA in various ways including training on sea turtle conservation and workshops on MPA management effectiveness. IUCN has brought in international experts to advise on the installation of buoys to demarcate the MPA and move boats to designated mooring areas.

Through the Small Grant Facility of Mangroves for the Future (MFF, IUCN has supported community participation in MPA management and coastal ecosystem restoration.

These areas face growing pressure from population growth and tourism to Hoi An and Cu Lao Cham. IUCN is committed to the long-term conservation of these areas and will continue to mobilize resources to support conservation efforts in Cu Lao Cham MPA and Biosphere Reserve.
