On 25 April 2012, MWD Thailand, together with WWF, the Coca Cola Foundation, Khon Kaen University, Region 4 of the Department of Water Resources and other stakeholders in Khon Kaen province, held the first meeting of the provincial working group on building community and ecosystem resilience to the impacts of climate change. The meeting discussed integrated water resource and wetland management at Kang La Wa wetland in Ban Phai district.

The deputy governor of Khon Kaen, Mr Tanawat Ploysophon, representing the provincial governor, presided over the meeting. Over 50 participants drawn from the public and private sectors, communities, academia and other civil society interests actively contributed to the discussions.

The meeting agreed to organise local dialogues and initiatives based on action learning principles to address issues such as flooding and drought. These will take into account the needs of various water user groups at Kang La Wa, and will be conducted jointly with the local authorities around the wetland. MWD and its partners in Khon Kaen will continue to support the provincial working group and the dialogue at Kang La Wa.
