World Environment Day Celebrated

 Kathmandu: Like other countries, Nepal is also celebrating World Environment Day on Tuesday with a dedication to conserve natural resources and promote green economy for the sustainable development of the nation.

Over the years, this event is celebrated annually by IUCN Nepal. This year, with the theme "Green Economy: Does it include you?" IUCN Nepal has celebrated World Environment Day in coordination with Central Zoo - National Trust for Nature Conservation (IUCN Member) and Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City.

A green walk with decorated elephant was organized in the streets of Lalitpur in the morning. School children from around 20 different schools of the valley, representatives of government and non-government organizations and locals had enthusiastically participated in the rally. The main objective of the rally was to spread the awareness message in accordance to the world theme of greening economy.

The formal program was organized at the end of the rally. Member Secretary of National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC) Juddha Bahadur Gurung welcomed all the participants on the auspicious day. The Chief Guest, Secretary of Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation Nabin Kumar Ghimire stressed on the need of willpower for the conservation of the natural resources. He also added that the Government will always support for this sort of initiations.

The winners of the various competitions among school children which had taken place earlier during the week were handed over prizes. The other attraction of the program was conservation oath administered by Miss Earth Nepal Ms. Nagma Shrestha Miss International Nepal Ms. Subechchha Khadka.
