Maarui Chikyu - Round Earth – Concert and Original Kimonos

I started producing and performing the Maarui Chikyu Concert to promote biodiversity to a wider range of people at the Convention on Biological Diversity conference in Nagoya in 2010, writes IRUKA - an IUCN Goodwill Ambassador.

Like last year, we had a huge audience for this year's concert coming from all over Japan. This year the Japan Committee for the United Nations Decade on Biodiversity of the Ministry of Environment of Japan joined as a co-host of the concert.

At every concert, I spend some time talking about IUCN activities in the middle of the performance.

The topic of this year was the World Conservation Congress held in September. I told the audience what was going on there and what issues were being discussed. After returning to Japan, I have been telling everyone about the great hospitality of the people in Jeju and other Congress participants.

In July, we held the "IRUKA with Friends Concert Vol.8" by Lake Kawaguchi at the foot of Mt. Fuji. This concert also aimed to promote IUCN. For the pamphlet of this concert, as well as "Maarui Chikyu Concert", IUCN Director General Julia Marton-Lefèvre, the Japanese Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Environment, and artists of various fields always give personal messages.

Since this spring, I have started designing an original Kimono collection. Under the theme of "Biodiversity", my Kimonos will be decorated with my drawings. I had the chance to show the first Kimono and sash at the Congress in Jeju. I will keep working on it to create many Kimonos for biodiversity!
