TGER Update on the Natural Resources Governance Framework (NRGF)

An informal pre-inception workshop meeting was held in Gland, 15-16 May. SC member Dr. Janis Alcorn who is chairing the NRGF Working Group, and NRGF consultant Jessica Campese, author of the 2012 IUCN review of governance assessment tools, participated from CEESP, at the invitation of Stewart Maginnis, Head of IUCNs Nature Based Solutions program.

Dr. Alcorn presented the 2 page brief on NRGF, the NRGF Workplan, and the NRGF Working Group matrix of 32 members who have volunteered to dedicate themselves to this initiative together their wide and complementary expertise. Each program of IUCN gave a presention of their understanding of how the NRGF would be integrated into the suite of IUCN Knowledge Products. There was a short brainstorming of ideas about NRGF, and the meeting closed with a discussion of future collaboration with ELC and WCEL after they have done more planning, and the administrative steps to enable CEESP to access the funds needed for the NRGF Inception Workshop. ELC will cofund the NRGF Inception Workshop, which is being planned for 21-24 July at Airlie House, outside Washington DC. There will be 12 participants from the NRGF Working Group, 7 from the Secretariat including ELC, and 4 from WCEL.
