Chair's Corner: Keith Wheeler introduces the May 2012 CEC Newsletter
16 May 2012 | News story
In this issue we cover CEC participation at Rio+20 and the World Conservation Congress and announce that CEC has more than 1,000 members.
Count CEC members among the 50,000 people expected to converge in Rio at a UN global gathering to advance action for a sustainable future. I will join CEC Deputy Chair Wendy Goldstein and CEC Steering Committee members Brad Smith and Suzana Padua to participate in the Rio+20 UN Conference on Sustainable Development. Other CEC members actively engaged in Rio+20 are Esther Agbarakwe, Juanita Castaño, Denise Hamú, Corli Pretorious, Pam Puntenney, Daniella Tilbury, Wouter Veening and Douglas Williamson. If you are attending, please let us know at cec@iucn.org so that we can meet informally as a CEC group.
After Rio+20 in June comes the World Conservation Congress in September. In this newsletter, we present the CEC Programme 2013-2016, announce the creation of a new youth award, provide an update on Commission activities, and link to a UN report on food and agriculture to which I contributed.
I am particularly pleased to report that the CEC network now includes more than 1,000 members. Our Membership Liaison Officer, Cecilia Nizzola-Tabja, recently celebrated her 20th anniversary as part of the Commission.
With best regards,
Keith Wheeler, CEC Chair
