Join the Biodiversity Media Alliance
04 May 2010 | News story
CEC members are invited to join a new online roster of experts -- the Biodiversity Media Alliance. Help journalists find the information they need to tell our biodiversity stories. CEC member David Ainsworth extends this invitation from Mike Shanahan of IIED, International Institute for Environment and Development.
The new Biodiversity Media Alliance is a joint project of IIED, IUCN and Internews. It aims to boost the quantity and quality of media coverage of biodiversity around the world. This roster of experts will help to build bridges between journalists and the sources of information they need to tell this story well.
The site has just opened for membership and IIED is asking scientists, communicators, NGO staff, indigenous people and other biodiversity experts to join up and start using it before the site is formally launched. The launch will alert thousands of journalists around the world.
Once launched, the site will encourage members of the media to engage with each other around the issues. Journalists may also chose to contact names listed on the roster, seeking interviews and information.
Sign in, and then tick boxes to indicate your areas of expertise. Add a more detailed description to help journalists find you. Also, consider joining a topic-specific group or 'blogging' about your interests. After registering you may need to check your email spam box in case the confirmation email goes there.
