The workshop brought together village leaders from 37 villages throughout the province to discuss community based management of marine, freshwater and terrestrial resources in the province. Key legal issues raised included management of marine reserves, forest conservation and catchment protection. The workshop was held in a coastal village, and was organised by WWF, the Wildlife Conservation Society and Wetlands International, with support from the Provincial Council and the paramount chief of the province. The workshop forms part of a long-term WWF-WCS-WI project to promote effective ecosystem-based management in Macuata Province.
